These needs may arise out of negative experiences in relationships such as stress, abuse, depression, anxiety, a difficult childhood, workplace concerns and career issues, bereavement, trauma, pregnancy, ageing, low self-esteem or a combination of factors.

A key focus of psychotherapy is processing the experiences and being curious around what adaptive patterns of behaviour exist in an effort to withstand them. What impact these patterns are having in the present both positive and negative and to find ways forward towards acceptance and/or change.
